Michelle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been a member of the Riverview team since 2004.  Upon the opening of Riverview Counseling Service’s Batavia office in 2015, Michelle became the Director of Clinical Services there.  She holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Social Work from Aurora University.  She maintains a Type 73 School Social Work Certificate from the Illinois State Board of Education and was previously employed in a private therapeutic day school setting.  She also has experience working as an Early Intervention Therapist and Evaluator through the State of Illinois’ Early Intervention program, serving children and their families from birth to 3 years of age.

Much of Michelle’s career has focused on working with young children and their families. She routinely works with children as young as preschool through the elementary years. Michelle utilizes a play-based approach which young children naturally respond to in an innate way.  Visual supports and movement-based play are incorporated into every session. Working with the family as a whole and offering ongoing parenting and behavioral support are also ways that Michelle likes to work to support children and families.  She has extensive experience understanding and managing the social and behavioral aspects of children with autism and assisted in the creation of a school-based program for children on the autism spectrum.

In addition to working with children, Michelle also provides counseling services to adult women who are experiencing difficulty in coping with the demands of day-to-day life and parenting.  She uses elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as Mindfulness practice.  Some of the topics that Michelle sees adult clients for include depression, anxiety, insomnia, stress-related issues, parenting concerns, and postpartum depression.

Special areas of interest include children on the autism spectrum, young children with emotional or behavioral issues, parenting support and training, and anxiety disorders.

On a personal note, Michelle is the mother of twins.  In her spare time, she enjoys practicing yoga, reading, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family.
