Katie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Luther College in Decorah, IA. She then earned her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. Katie is a Clinical Fellow with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and a member of the Illinois Association of Marriage and Family Therapy
Katie has experience working with children who struggle with anxiety, depression, transitions and emotional regulation. She has expertise in working with adolescents who struggle with mood disorders, eating disorders, trauma and self harm. Katie has a long history of helping children and their families. Prior to joining Riverview Counseling she was a family therapist at Timberline Knolls, a treatment facility for adolescent girls with eating disorders, trauma, addiction, and self-harm. She also provided individual /group and family therapy at the John Costigan Center, and Family Service Association.
As a mother of three teenagers, I absolutely love working with children, adolescents and families in strengthening their relationships with one another by identifying family roles, emotional patterns and intergenerational influences. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is providing hope and encouragement for families as they exlore new and more empowering ways to connect with one anoter
