Celina is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience working with children and families. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois and a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the North American Association of Christians in Social Work. She has worked for many years as a school social worker, supporting children with a diversity of life experiences and characteristics. She also has worked within the Illinois Early Intervention System, serving children 0-3 years old and their families.
Underlying her practice is the belief that every child is an important part of their family system. She values the goals, strengths, and areas for growth identified by all family members. Parents are encouraged to participate in the therapeutic process; they are the most important people in their child’s life and have such an impact on their child’s progress and development.
Celina has experience working with children impacted by anxiety, depression, grief, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, developmental delays, emotional dysregulation, and social/behavioral challenges. She tailors her therapeutic approach to meet the needs of each child and family. Celina is also currently in a practicum program to earn certification in Theraplay®, an evidence-based therapeutic approach for developing healthy attachment, trusting relationships, healthy self-esteem, and joyful engagement.
On a personal note, Celina is the mother of five. Four fun (and busy) boys and one daughter! She knows first-hand the joys and struggles of parenting children with both medical and developmental challenges. Her work is informed by this perspective. Celina also loves the outdoors, camping, music, messy art projects, and continuously learning!
