Karen Alberti is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She has over 29 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. While her main approach focuses on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, Karen also utilizes Play Therapy, Bibliotherapy, homework assignments, and Art Therapy techniques.
Karen treats children, adolescents, and adults coping with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, grief and loss, abuse, anger management, self-esteem issues, ADHD, and self-injury. She also treats individuals and families coping with cancer and other chronic illnesses.
“Whether I am working with a 6-year-old girl or a 65-year-old man, it is important to identify a person's strengths. These strengths are the steppingstones upon which the client and I will reinforce, or rebuild, their foundation.”
In addition to her master's training from Northern Illinois University and her long-term service in private practice, Karen has an array of experience ranging from being a primary therapist to children at a residential school to teaching parent education to community mental health in a hospital setting. She recently served as the Clinical Director at a homeless shelter.
In her free time, Karen enjoys playing with her cats, reading, spending time with family, and learning about butterflies and pandas.
