Layne earned his Bachelor's degree in Child and Family studies at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. Layne then earned his master’s degree in Social Work from Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois. Layne is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience working with individuals, families and groups.

Layne has expertise working with children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with anger, oppositional behavior, substance use, legal issues, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. Layne uses an integrated therapeutic approach that could include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and solution focused therapy. Prior to joining Riverview Counseling, Layne worked for the Dekalb County Courts working with adults in a drug court/mental health court program, providing individual and group therapy to adults with substance use disorders and a variety of mental health disorders. Layne also previously worked in community mental health providing individual, family, group therapy, community-based support and in-home support to a diverse population of families struggling with anger, depression, anxiety, legal issues, behavioral issues at school and home, mood disorders, and trauma.

Layne strives to create a safe, warm and welcoming environment where individuals and families can engage actively in the therapeutic process and feel comfortable working collaboratively.
