Leilanis is a student therapist at Northern Illinois University, studying Applied Human Development and Family Science with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. As a student therapist, Leilanis takes a systemic approach with attention to Attachment Theory as she strives to fully understand her clients and help them process the situations life has thrown at them. Leilanis is passionate about helping others, and was is currently a fellow for the FAHS Minority Fellowship Program, which trains graduate student to serve underrepresented communities. Leilanis is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy, Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Leilanis is also Level 1 and 2 Gottman trained.

Before moving to Illinois, Leilanis immigrated from Puerto Rico to Florida. She attended Florida State University and graduated Cum Laude with Honors with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Science and a minor in Psychology. Leilanis has a long history of serving her community, acting as a nanny for low-income families, a Big Sister in BBBS, an Ignite Fellow tutoring children in Title I schools, and a Peer Mentor for freshman at FSU. These experiences helped shape her understanding of human relationships, and solidified her desire to join a field that emphasized the emotional affects of familial systems and community on individuals.

Above all else, Leilanis aims to create a safe, secure, and healing space for her clients. She is particularly interested in working with adolescents, adults, families, and couples. She emphasizes building a strong sense of identity and self, healing attachment wounds, building communication and trust within relationships, and finding enjoyment in everyday life. Leilanis is dedicated to learning, and strives to better herself everyday.
